Anamnesis Project – GDD [PT1]

Hey guys so I decided to do something a little different but I think could be equally as fun! The other day I was in a manic delulu, and decided to come up with the classes for my non existent video game featuring my oc’s.

I’ve always been a fan of open game world design, games where you’re meant to explore and just find stuff on your own, where bosses don’t really have a specific order and you can go about doing them as you please.

If I were to create a video game it would follow those principles. Think Dark Souls meets Zelda except the combat is more like a Star Ocean or Tales series. Sure there’s difficulty but nothing you can’t overcome by choosing the right load out and brining the right party members with you, or even maybe a little bit of grinding.

Video games are meant to be fun and I’m not a fan or exploiting the player via challenging difficulty that’s not meant to challenge but torture you. There’s a fine line between those two and I’d rather challenge the player, rather than make them suffer because there’s a weird masochistic disdain directed towards the one holding the controller.

I’m thinking your party members would be fixed to a specific class (still playable during combat though) and the MC (aka the player) would be able to pick and choose different spells and abilities via a skill tree but wouldn’t be locked down to a specific class. The player can make their own build, with little handholding from the developer. All right let’s get to it.

STATS

VIT – Vitality

  • This is your HP allocating points here will let you take more hits from enemies.
  • Stat related to cure elements.

DEF – Defense

  • Placing points here will allow you to wield heavier shield and allow you to cast some defense spells
  • Some defense spells can also build up your party or hype them up to go all out.

STR – Strength

  • This is the stat that determines how hard you hit enemies. Also allows you to equip heavier weapons

DEX – Dexterity

  • Are you perhaps interested in bows and arrows? Or maybe a technical weapon. Perhaps some daggers is more your style?
  • Dexterity also allows you to lock pick and have heavier sneaking.

INT – Intelligence

  • This is for all mages out there who wish to cast divine spells.
  • INT also is requieres for heavier catalysts and crystal tools.
  • High enough INT allows you to partner with an elemental spirit. They have to like you first though.

END – Endurance

  • This is your stamina, the more endurance you have the more stamina you allocate.
  • Sometimes you’ll need endurance to scale mountains or reach high points of The First Sphere.
  • Endurance also allows you to equip rune weapons.

LCK – Luck

  • The most fun stat of them all!
  • Luck builds can equip a special technical weapon in the form of a die 20. At the beginning of a battle they’ll be able to throw it and see what number they get, probably determining the outcome of the battle.
  • Luck builds can also throw their die with a special random skill. If they’re lucky enough they might just get a really cool attack, even summon special Eidolons.
  • Luck is considered endgame for its insane grinding and difficulty. Or for a player that knows EXACTLY what they’re doing. One wrong point and luck can destroy your carefully crafted build. A double edge sword.

Choosing a build.

Of course as the MC, the player, can pick and choose skills and abilities that best choose their play style from the seven builds.

However your party members can not – and it’s up to you to choose where to take them build wise.

You’ll have to take into consideration their strengths and weaknesses and how much you like them – you’re social standing with the character affects how you build them. Placing them in the right build is crucial. It’s important to keep them happy and meet their needs and hopefully their wants and dreams. Placing a character in the wrong build and taking them exploring will trigger disapproval towards you.

Garner enough disapproval and a special scene will trigger.

Some of them might sit down and talk with you, they’ll express how they wish you change their build. Which you can say no. Probably breaking your social standing with them. Other times they’ll give you no such courtesy and leave your party. Never to join your squad again. It might hurt as maybe they’ll still want to explore The First Sphere but not with you.

It’s important to understand where to build each character.
